OAK TREE PLANTED TO MARK PLATINUM JUBILEE OF HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II
On Sunday 6 February 2022, the 70th Anniversary of the date of succession of Her Majesty the Queen, residents of Pickhill turned out in gale force winds and driving sleet, to see an Oak tree sapling being planted on the village green, to mark this unique occasion - the Platinum Jubilee.
Parish Council Chairman Graham Clarke greeted the gathering of residents, parish councillors and long time serving District Councillor David Webster. Graham welcomed Joyce Barningham, who has served the villages of Pickhill & Sinderby for several decades and he outlined that she was a founding member of the Parish Council and served as Councillor and Parish Clerk for 30 years until retiring in 2019.
Joyce performed the tree planting ceremony, just as the sun broke through, in a ten minute window, before the snow returned.
Brass plaques are to be mounted for this Oak sapling, as well as for the nearby Lime tree, which was planted in 1897 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (Joyce assures us she did not plant that one). Photos attached including, Joyce with her family.
